On July 14, 2000..at about 1pm in the afternoon, you would have thought it was more like 9pm. The skies became a strange mousey gray, the humidity was high, and the air was thick and still. As the skies darkened, stereo-graphic thunder began rolling..from all directions, and rumbled on and on as if stuck in an echo. I sprang to my door with excitement and noticed two distinct layers of clouds moving..one under the other, at 2 different speeds.. a recipe for Tornadic activity indeed! I run and grabbed my camera and headed outside, into the uncertainty of the weather. As the pillars of clouds began to build and spread out to blanket the entire horizon...depending on which direction you were standing, one could see colors of brown, yellow, green, grey and black. Soon eerie imagery began to form among the patterns of clouds, I noticed as I began clicking the camera. What an awesome oil painting by Mother Nature, I thought! My attention was distracted by a commotion...I peered down the hill in front of me..and heard the whistle of a strong continous wind and watched the trees, being forced to bend nearly touching the ground. Soon the great wall of wind had reached where I stood..and the clouds above took off in a race across the sky, leaving sparks of pink lightning. And I became bombbarded by large heavy raindrops...that soon became dime-sized hail.. "Time To Go In NOW!" I exclaimed as the the sirens began to blare the warnings...that fortunately..only resulted in a few interesting funnel clouds. I did managed to also turn on my tape recorder. So for your Storm-Chasing enjoyement...I would like to share my storm photos and the cool thundery sounds with you..Enjoy!
